when i start the demos the render window just closes

Check your resource folders for simple_terrain.mesh.. If the file exists in a folder, try to check the resources.cfg file and make sure the path to the directory is there.

Well. You need to export the milkshape model to ogre's mesh-format. Get the plugin from the download page...

the .mesh should be included with OgreNewt. did you download from my website or CVS?

I think the anonymous cvs is kinda messed up right now, the version on Walaber's website should be newer.
